Inkling Enacted

A festival of new performance

Dates

November 16th – December 11th , 2020 &
February 5th, 2021

Inkling Enacted is a festival of new performance and works-in-progress that aims to centre disability and equity within collaborative art-making. In February 2020, a group of Deaf, hearing, disabled and enabled artists gathered and started creating a festival framework for Inkling Enacted. These sessions resulted in a call for proposals in March, 2020 that welcomed projects in any discipline with a focus on collaborations among disabled, enabled, Deaf and hearing people at the earliest stages of a creative process – at the “inkling” phase.

Our intention, at that time, was to offer a decentralized approach to programming the festival with the introduction of a Curatorial Lab in which all Inkling participants were invited to join. After that, proposals that were supported would begin early development, and groups would present the outcomes of this early development in a live festival in May 2020. However, due to COVID19, the curatorial lab was cancelled, and the live festival was postponed until November 2020.

Instead, all proposed projects were offered equitable resources, and, throughout the summer, a number of these collaborations went ahead with development work online. When November arrived, and it was still unsafe to gather and work in person, Inkling went digital in lieu of an IRL festival with the Inkling Enacted Project Spotlight series from November 16th – December 11th , 2020. This spotlight series highlighted the 8 Inkling Enacted projects over a 4-week period via video highlights, process photos, artist profiles, and artist interviews shared on Red Dress Productions’ social media channels.

It is our hope in sharing these Project Spotlights that we draw attention to work and processes that share with an audience the inkling stage of creative development, including experiments that use Inkling Enacted as a laboratory to test new ideas or models of working.

The video highlights and artist interviews can be found on Red Dress Productions’ Vimeo account.
